location: st. george, ut
yep, that means road trip! sad to say, the girls were unable to attend due to their summer schedule, but jay and i were packed and ready to take a break from this heat.
family members have been planning this reunion for probably the last year if not more. to get any large group together takes precise planning and coordination on behalf of all. thank you to all who helped make my first ramsey reunion one i'll never forget!
friday: play all day with the girls and jay while preparing them to leave for texas and us for utah. take the girls to the airport (never a fun time for me). come home to switch to a smaller vehicle and begin our road trip. meet up in flagstaff with jay's mom, dad and sister's family.
saturday: continue the trip to st. george (jay and i listened to the second tennis shoes among the nephites book - i like those books!) arrive at the hotel to find we are staying right next to the outlet mall...yay! unload, quick 'hi' to the families already checked in and let the shopping begin! dinner at a nearby park with some of the cousins, aunts and uncles and grandpa jay.
sunday: enjoy taking my time getting ready for church (11am start). take up 5 rows in the chapel just for our family. pictures and lunch after. during the down time before the family dinner, jay and i went touring st. george. brigham young's winter home. very cool to see where the prophet stayed while overseeing the construction of the st. george temple. after the family dinner there was another time for pictures - birthdays by month and age groups.
march birthdays
july birthdays
over 30 - jay's group.
over 30 - jay's group.
and under 30 - my group!
(notice grandpa is proudly wearing the reunion shirt that jay's cousin made.)
monday: all the family met up at a community center in washington for a bbq and water fun. the water play area was pretty cool. it was complete with a slide, lazy river and 2 kiddie play areas. inside was the gym (2 to be exact), rock wall, work out facility and tumbling area. all was ours for the day. needless to say, much fun was had by young and old! the end of a wonderful reunion...but not the end of our stay.
tuesday: while most family headed back home we hit the dirt..literally! and the rocks! two of my brother-in-laws brought their jeeps and others brought 4-wheelers for some off road fun. i think jared found the roughest trail he could.
after riding 0.8ths of a mile we hit a road closure. our only choice was to go the rest of the way on foot. it was a nice day for a hike anyway. miss ava came along for the ride.
it got kinda warm and my tag along fell asleep but once we reached the top we could see it was worth every step.
snow canyon
after a quick lunch we were in search of these narrows that jay and his family had hiked in years ago. well, we found them and they didn't exactly look inviting. they were really narrow! while the kids had no problem, the adults were a little hesitant.
miranda was our fearless leader. you were fearless right?!
the ones who stayed behind.
good thing this man o' mine is skinny!
almost out of the canyon.
here is a the top view of jay's dad giving it a try....i'm pretty sure he had to turn back from here.
me and my love.
enough hiking, it was time to hit the hotel pool! seeing as it was not the weekend anymore, most of the hotel guests had checked out leaving the pool to the remaining rasbands. nice! and on the menu for dinner - cafe rio! but as jay and i were looking over pictures, we noticed we didn't have any with grandpa, so we nabbed his mom and had our last visit with grandpa jay before we left.
it is a beautiful building at sunset
wednesday: get up early (the only day this vacation) to make it a session before we have to head back to the valley of the sun. it was so worth every lost minute of sleep. the st. george temple is the first temple completed by the saints after their forced exodus from nauvoo.
after having a delicious lunch at the olive garden for the birthday girl (my mother-in-law) it was time to hit the road.
all in all, i love my new family and enjoy all the time i get to spend with them.

So fun! I LOVE the St. George Temple...the inside is incredible!
Okay - I freaking love George!!! I grew up in Northern Utah so any trip down south was a HUGE deal for me. I remember the first time I went to the Temple there...oh I still get chills!!! And it's such a beautiful place and oh I'm just so glad you got to go and got to enjoy it!! What a cool thing for your whole family to get together like that!!! I'm sure the girls will have as much fun as you did when they get to go to the next one!! Love you babe!
